Sisterhood is a reward.
The sister relationship, above all other relationships, is the greatest of all.
I believe sisterhood requires more energy than parenting and more work than a marriage.
Sisterhood is a bond often threatened and is threatening all in the same breath.
When women get married, a union is formed.
When women have a family, a nation is built.
When women step into their purpose and empire is created.
But, when women get together the world changes.
Sisterhood, in my opinion, is not something that can be defined. It is an experience that must be had.
There was a time when I might have attempted to understand the term “sister” or “sisterhood” by looking outside myself for a definition. Today, however, as I am perhaps wiser and certainly more confident, I choose to rely on my own personal experience and observation. Although I don’t have a sister by blood, I am well aware of the uniqueness of this relationship and the value it holds for me.
I had the pleasure of interviewing four ladies that I have been watching on Instagram for quite some time, and their movements are astounding. I call these four ladies “The Elements.” They each bring something valuable to the society that they live, work and serve.
Their bond doesn’t come from superficial commonalities, but a shared understanding of each other’s experience and contribution to the world. Within this understanding, any differences can be embraced.

In order to be a successful chess player, you have to first understand how to play the game. You are probably thinking, Lucinda that is obvious. However, you will be surprised how many people try to jump into a new arena without actually educated themselves on the specific subject.
If you want to be an extraordinary chess player, then I would say observe other successful players or find a mentor to teach you the tricks of the trade. In other words for every new venture you decide to embark on, such as being an entrepreneur or a public speaker, do your homework and study that particular expertise. Also, you should find someone who has traveled the road for advice.
The game of chess requires a player to hone in on their strategic skills and thinking. Therefore, the game seems to be the universal symbol of strategy. Although skills needed in the game of chess can be highly effective in other arenas, if you continuously study the game of chest you can memorize all of the possible moves one can make and all of the possible advancements their opponents can make. Of course, this takes a lot of practice and dedication. However, some fields there is no blueprint and you can’t predict someone’s move thus preparing to make your next. For example, the game of business is unpredictable. Unlike chess, you can’t think of all the possibilities of what may happen and try to find solutions.
Setting your priorities and sticking to them is a great step towards reducing your stress, but it won’t help much if you don’t have time to finish all the other menial tasks that are involved in running an at-home business. Items like billing, filing, ordering ink for your printer, and a million other little things that pile up over time still need to be done.
Let’s look at five methods to help you keep better track of where your time goes, and keep on top of your schedule.
1. Write everything down.
Famous productivity expert David Allen, author of Get It Done, recommend getting your to-dos out of your brain and onto paper. I can attest that this method works! When I’m feeling overwhelmed, I have found one of the greatest ways to de-stress is to sit down and write out everything I have to do that’s got my head spinning. Whether those are big projects, little five-minute tasks, or anything, it all goes down on paper as my brain is churning out the words. When I can actually see my thoughts on paper, I can start sorting and prioritizing.
2. Keep track of how long a task takes you.
It’s a common psychological trick we play on ourselves – we overestimate how long it takes to complete unpleasant tasks, and we underestimate how long we spend on pleasant items. Get real by writing down the actual time it takes you to do things like file papers, log receipts, and any other tedious task. Then you have a concrete estimate the next time you think, “Oh, that’s going to take all day!”
3. Minimize interruptions.
Turn off your email alert noise, put your phone ringer on mute, and clear your desktop before you jump into a task that requires concentration. Fewer interruptions and distractions allow you to get in that concentrating “sweet spot” where you’re humming along and working at a pleasant clip. That means you’ll get your work done faster and be less stressed. Constant interruptions ultimately result in needing to re-prioritize your day, over and over and over again. You can see how the stress you feel just keeps escalating without minimizing the interruptions each day.
4. Break down large projects.
Big projects – website overhauls, writing reports, planning marketing campaigns, creating a newsletter – can be overwhelming. When faced with a large project, break it up into tasks you can complete in one sitting, preferably in under 20 minutes. That way, instead of looking for a free afternoon to tackle the project all at once (which you’ll never get!), you just need to squeeze in 20 minutes here and there until the project is completed. I don’t know anyone who can’t find 20 minutes, but ask an entrepreneur to block out 8 hours for a project, and you’ll receive in turn a stunned glare.
5. Take advantage of “lost” time.
Our days are full of five minute breaks between activities. We call these “dead” time. You may be sitting in car-line at your child’s school, or in line at the pharmacy, or even waiting for a pot of water to boil. There you are, simply waiting for something to happen. Keep a notebook with a running list of tasks that can be completed in 5 minutes or less. Schedule an appointment, call a friend to set up a lunch date, clean out your voice mail, file your nails – anything that you know you need to do but don’t get around to doing.
Now when you have “dead” time, glance down at your notebook with the list of 5 minute tasks and start at the top. Work your way down the list every time you find yourself with a few free minutes. You’ll be amazed at how much you accomplish when you’re ready to go!
The power of time management can have you thinking you can do it all now! You are Superwoman! You are Supermom! But, before you go leaping those tall buildings, stop and take a deep breath. There are still things beyond our control. Yes, we can do a lot, but we can’t do it all. Life sometimes gets in the way, even of the most on-task entrepreneur.

During the half time in a game, the entertainment comes out, the players get a rest, the coach reviews the game plan and motivates the team, a discussion happens as to who is not performing at the highest and best, and whether or not they need more defense. There is a lot of activity going on during half time that motivates the players to finish the game with intentions to win.
- Plan Out Your Time: If your intentions are to win, win, win, no matter what, then moving past the half time to the finish line is important. Beginning a new thing or a new project is exciting, but you must be selective with your time and how you use it. Keep the end result in mind. I like to create a small vision board for my major goals with a list of of my minor goals that will get me closer to accomplishing my major goal. Each major goal should have a timeline and focus days that you dedicate to your completion date.
- Get Rid Of Perfectionism: What happens when starters get to the half-way mark is perfectionism. Perfectionism leads to procrastination and gets in the way of making it to the finish line. When procrastination takes over you no longer see yourself at the finish line. You begin to get tired and overwhelmed. The best way to get rid of perfectionism is to keep it moving with a sense of urgency.
- Commitment Is Key: Give yourself permission to end a project if it’s really not in line with your vision. If you are at the half way mark in your project, focus on finishing what you started. Take this time to look at the game plan and see what needs to be changed, added or omitted. How you started may not be the way you finish. Some of the team and support you started with may not be there with you at the finish line. That’s why half time is so important.
- Make A Plan And Work Your Plan: Rely on your half time strategy, planning and process, not your own willpower. You want to create a mindset and working environment (associates, partners, volunteers, advisors) that will pull you and push you forward towards the finish line. Answer the following questions:
- What do you need to do to stick to the plan?
- What is the outcome you desire?
- What will it look like when you have attained the desired result?
- What will it feel like when you have reached your goal?
- Who will you be celebrating or sharing this moment with?
- Where will you be sharing the moment?
- How will your life be different from that way it is now when you have crossed the finish line?
- What aspects of your life so you have to overcome or change in order to cross the finish line?
Half Time Tip: if you want to stay motivated to complete what you have started, to move past half time, then you must do one thing. Celebrate. Celebrate during half time; congratulate yourself at that midway mark. This will heighten your motivation and determination to complete your project.
