As someone who invests in conferences and networking as well as producing these events, I understand how costly this can get with so many awesome events going on. Even if you get to snag early-bird specials and discount rates the investment can take a huge toll on your finances if not planned out correctly. One thing I learned to do was to connect with other individuals attending and bunk up or carpool. I learned to grab early flights using flight alerts. Checking nearby Airbnb and also grabbing groupons to cover lunch and dinner was a huge success.
Well here is a few ways to arrange for FREE tickets to The Big ASK Live.
1. Are you a podcaster, blogger, social media influencer? If you are covering the conference under press or media you can get a complimentary ticket with the right requirements.
2. Do you have a camera or Video camera? If you agree to take photos or video snippets of the conference as part of the conference onsite social media squad you can also grab a complimentary ticket.
3. Lend your hands to some labor. If you can help set up or break down or be a part of the organizing committee you get a complimentary ticket. Or offer any admin support services virtually pre-conference. We can use all the help!

Let me just share that the ESSENCE Fest experience is all about the side events. Just when you think you are having a blast at the Convention Center and the concerts at The Superdome before you get there you have to decide between a dozen or so dope events that you must narrow down to two or three that you can attend per day.
Side events include celebrity brunches and lunches, meet-ups with decision makers and corporate big wigs, your favorite product Pop up shops and then there’s the all-white parties, all black parties, movie premiers, listening parties, and album releases.
I was able to get in on:
AT&T Brunch with Isaiah Thomas– it was polished. Everyone was dressed to the T. Me and hubby literally just got off the plane and headed over to the brunch not realizing it was fancy schmancy. As we were going back and forth whether we should stay or leave because we were underdressed, cute still but a bit underdressed, here comes a big wig, greeting us, loving on us and welcoming us to an elite table in our un-elite attire. LOL Here is where Isaiah Thomas was showcasing his new champagne which was really delicious and I had a chance to meet some top executives and media outlets. One connection I made, in particular, had me ready to do a Glory run around the room. (more to come about that)
Strength of A Woman Brunchhosted by Mary J Blige- yoooooooooooo, this event is my personal highlight ever year, thanks to one of my sister friends. Here you are in a room full of A-listers but everyone is super cool and relaxed. The energy in the room is light and the ambiance is flawless. Plus I get a chance to see Mary J Blige up close and personal. Yes, I had to hold back a few yells and OMGs when I saw her but her smile and even acknowledging my Yellow dress was everything.

On April 24th I had the pleasure of attending the Dr. Miracles’ Launch Event for the new Miracle Renewal on behalf of Bloggin Mamas NYC. All opinions are my own and, other than the invite I was not compensated for this post.
I was excited to get the invite to this event based off of my personal brand. For many years I have been rocking my signature short hair cut with the blonde in the middle. I am constantly on the go, from speaking at events to fulling my brand Ambassador agreements, my hair was getting weak from the constant relaxing, chemicals and flat ironing. My beautician decided to give my hair a break. Attending this event restored my hope in having healthy, strong hair again soon.
How often are we caught up in the rush of doing life, that we never enjoy living the life. I am talking about stopping to smell the sweet aroma of success on your journey.
Success is a journey full of inspiration and reflection. It’s a journey that should not be rushed through.
When you pace yourself you actually speed up your process. You’ll begin to see all those little things about yourself and others that you missed before. Pacing yourself allows you to savor every moment. It allows you to experience the nine months of growth and development during pregnancy that most women want to rush through.
Repeat after me: No Plan…No Progress…No Plan…No Progress.
2013 was full of surprises but one thing that contributed to the portion of my success, was the planning. Without a plan you will be winging it. One thing you don’t want to wing is your relationship with hubby, your business, your health and your relationship with God.

If you sit down and take the time to listen, you will hear the compassion that your fellow colleagues and sisters in leadership are crying out for. Compassion is love. Compassion allows you to do your best work without diminishing someone else’s light. Compassion allows you to dig deep without feelings of envy or jealously. Compassion allows you to look at a situation from a position of power. Compassion allows you to remove the ego from having an emotional overdose.
Today I celebrate my sisters because I celebrate myself. Today I love my sisters, because I love myself. Today I embrace my sisters because I embrace myself. You don’t get in life what you want, you get what you are and who you are. I choose to celebrate her instead of compete with her. I choose to love myself and my sister-friends and associates. I choose to pray for them instead of preying on them. What do you choose?
Let us work on uplifting, encouraging and empowering one another. We need to embrace Lean In: Women, Work & the Will to Lead by Sheryl Sandberg. I want you to take two simple steps towards activating your compassion. The first step is deciding what compassion means for you. The second step is believing you deserve compassion and so does your associates and sister-friends.

Often times I would attend a conference and after the conference the momentum is lost. After all that hard work that the host goes through in order to put on a stellar event it is lost in time and people are now looking for the next big thing. In my experience in planning the Activate Conference, I felt like I was planning a wedding. Post conference is when the executing the vision started. Just like a marriage, after the big day when you declare your “I Do’s”, the real work begins when you come back from your honeymoon. It is my responsibility to keep the momentum going and the fire burning. I consider the Activate Conference an experience that will continue to offer great information and ongoing edu-tainment until we meet again.
