Are you bolder than a 2nd grader?

On my way to pick my kids up from school we run into a talent scout who was waiting to meet another parent and her child.  The talent scout hands me her card and I instantly thought of my daughter and her desire to be on Disney.  Although this was not a Disney talent scout, we don’t despise small beginnings. I walk to my car and challenge my daughter to meet the scout (sometimes you have to test yourself and others to see if what they/you want, is really what they/you want).  I tell my daughter to come meet this nice lady who is looking for young girls for a few upcoming talent shows.

I walk away and watch from the distance……my daughter is singing…..my daughter is cat walking on the sidewalk……and now my daughter is giving her best Whitney Houston performance.

Talk about being bold.  The lady was shocked at her impromptu performance.

She asked Kayla “Are you ready to audition in front of a large crowd?”

My daughter replies, “I was born ready, my mother is my activator”.

The lady said “you mean your motivator”

My daughter replied “no, she is my activator, she tells me to be prepared at all times and to do my best.”

 

Side bar: What seeds are you planting in your children’s mind?  Do they believe in limitless opportunitunities?

Do they believe that they can be and do whatever they set their minds to?

Are you taking bold steps?  Are you showing up in the world ready to do your best and be your best when the opportunity presents itself?

Life is unscripted. Be bold.

Don’t let FEAR bully you

The FEAR bully never sleeps.  Just because you have made  strides to fight FEAR and be this FEARless being…FEAR is a bully, it’s like the boogie man. It will show up in the form of your mom, dad, children, supervisor, husband, you name it.  But here is the remedy: Activation!…FEAR and Activation can’t be in the same room, because there will be a good old western cowboy show down.

I remember during one of my workshops FEAR popped its head in and was loud and boisterous.  Side bar: FEAR will lose control if it feels like its being challenged, it will get loud or either tries to complain and cop a plea to get out.

So during my presentation, I addressed an issue that was bound to bring the FEAR out of the room and I talked about self sabotage. Well as soon as I addressed self sabotage in great detail, FEAR started to talk out loud, someone’s FEAR even made them leave the room.  Now this is not because I was challenging them personally, but I was fostering a breakthrough using change strategies and FEAR wanted to fight back so that it would not be exposed.

In short, I called FEAR to the front of the room to be exposed and BAM! POW! BOOM! FEAR left the individual alone and the person was mentally free and focused enough to enjoy the rest of the workshop and receive her blessing.

Please don’t let FEAR stop you from getting married, moving on with your life, starting a business, apologizing, forgiving, succeeding or even speaking or writing that book.  FEAR and Activation can’t be in the same room, so who are you going to let rule your next step?

44yrs Ago A Great Man Died So The 44th President Could Be Elected

44years ago a great man died so that the 44th President could be elected.

Looking at what Martin Luther King talked about, marched about and believed, manifested years and decades later. I want you to look at what you stand for today?

How are you impacting others?

What speech have you been saying these past few years?

Have you been depositing words of healing or words of hurt into your household or even to those you come in contact with?

Is your message consistent?

Is your message authentic?

As you review the speech below, I want you to think about what have you been preaching about and speaking on lately.  This pertains to everyday general conversations on the phone, at work, with your family or your friends. Do they know what you stand for? Are you walking your talk?

Make sure your conversation is full of substance and change.  Just like our forefather Dr. King Jr. who walked his talk and it continues to manifest as we look at the manifestation with our 44th President Obama.

Your words can heal, hurt or change a generation/nation. Yes, it is that serious so watch what you preach, teach and present this year.

Shame on Forbes.com: “If I Were A Poor Black Kid”

As I was checking on one of my trusted advisor websites,  Alfred Edmond Jr SVP/Editor-at-large of BLACK ENTERPRISE, I noticed his well stated rebuttal to an article posted on Forbes.com by Gene Marks.  The article headline read: “If I Were A Poor Black Kid“.  Well Mr. Edmond decided to write his article called: If I Were A Rich, Privileged White Kid, and here is my two cents to Mr. Marks.

 

Mr. Marks,


It appears that your intention was to educate, encourage and empower a “poor black kid” on what it takes to be successful in life.   To avoid being “outside of your expertise”, it would have been prudent to interview successful black men and women to find out what it took to bring them out of poverty into prosperity. It also would have shown wisdom to ask them how they handled the shortages of food, clothing, shelter, money, etc.  A “good education”, “good job” and “tech skills” are not necessarily passports to health, wealth, love, career fulfillment or monetary satisfaction. Are you familiar with the term “the working poor?”

In closing, I would like to suggest that you really look at  the power of words. Self-esteem is a critical component of success. Your article title “poor black kid” shows the limitation of your paradigm because it places a dis-empowering  label upon a child. Rather than arrogantly stating that you stand by your words, it would be beneficial to consider that a shift in consciousness is in order as this article in particular clearly reveals your true intention, which was to demean, belittle and criticize. Any child reading this article would be hard-pressed to walk away with self-esteem in tact after reading your post.

I believe that you would greatly benefit from volunteering your time and services. Join the people on the front lines who give generously of their time, undivided attention, intellectual capital and financial resources to solve the problem of poverty. First hand experience would clearly teach you empathy and compassion and the power of “doing” versus “talking about what you would do”.

Women In Business Need To Get Naked

Women in business need to get naked.

 

 

 

 

Oh yeah! get naked but, please don’t take your clothes off.  When I say get naked I want you to start to advertise, advertise and advertise.  Stand behind your product, stand behind your service, stand behind your brand.  You have to find savvy ways to tell people what you do without shoving it down their throats. Get naked by showing the world what you do and what your working with.

In order for you to be the ONE, to be the TOP CHOICE, you have to be willing to get naked.  Take off what you have been wearing and start to put on the face of your business.  Show people what your hidden talents are.  Show people what you are working with.  Show people what you are passionate about.   My mother always told me if you got it flaunt it.  Take mommies advice and flaunt it.

In order to get noticed you have to show more, be fun and be consistent. Tell your people about your business in a different and exciting way.

Start to get naked by doing the following:

  1. Send out a tip of the week, or day and give it a catchy title. For example, if you are a baker, you may want to have a “Sweet Tooth tip of the week” or include your name in it for branding “Carlton’s Sweet Tip”.
  2. Stop covering up your brand, expose it by blogging. 70% of my revenue comes from clients who are avid readers of my blog.  Think about how you can incorporate your product or service into a blog post 2-3x a month. For example as a Relationship Coach you may want to do a 3 part series called “What’s Love Got To Do With It” part 1 and then offer an relationship laser session for $97.
  3. Get in front of a camera. Don’t be afraid to do a video every once in a blue.  This gives people the opportunity to feel like they know you better and this helps to build trust.

This is just some of the ways you can begin to get naked with your business.  It is all about exposing yourself and what you have to offer.

F’ing Up: Lifestyle Freedom

Today’s F’ing up story is about FREEDOM. What does freedom feel like for you? What does freedom smell like for you? How does freedom feel?

When you look at freedom do you experience the benefits of being free or do you find yourself carrying dead weight. The weight of being mentally bound by believing you were not good enough, smart enough, tough enough, young enough, too big enough or too short enough to do.

Freedom requires you to let go and release your mind, heart and soul from the fear that someone or something on the outside can stop you, harm you or hurt you on the inside.

Freedom requires you to let go from the self imposed, self inflicted limitations of feeling and believing you are not enough and you are doing something wrong or you are wrong I some form or fashion. You don’t need to be fixed; you just need to be free. Let me repeat that…you don’t need to be fixed you just need to be free. You must not and will no longer let anyone, anything; any thoughts confine, define or bind you.

When you allow yourself the permission to be free, you will be able to use the gifts that God has given you with no restraints. You allow yourself to develop, to be used and not abused and you begin to leave a legacy.

The goal is to get free, to leverage and maximize the use of your gifts so that you leave a mark, make a contribution to good. Not just using them with the intent to earn money. Even though you may earn lots of money, you want to use the gifts to show gratitude for being here.

Give! Spend! Unconditionally! Maximize every opportunity to give freely! Show you are grateful. As you step into this new level of freedom, then you will BE the gift to someone; everyone and everywhere.

You will BE the gift to everyone that comes on your path. Think it! Plan it! Envision it! Feel it! Put effort to it! Be it! Live it! See yourself and all your thoughts, ideas, talents as gifts from God given to you for the purpose of giving to someone else. Give the gifts away, everyday! Reach, stretch, and give!

Freedom is a state of mind. Your freedom is your business; you are not required to share your new state of mind, just your gifts. Let your actions do the talking.

Stop gathering information! PROCRASTINATION RALLY

I am starting a Procrastination Rally.  No More Procrastination. The roof, the roof is on fire, we don’t need no water let the procrastinator excuses burn, burn down long to do list, burn information hoarders, burn time wasters, burn baby burn.

Research shows that most of us spend up to 80% of our time on activities that have nothing to do with the success of our projects. We load ourselves down with endless tasks that keep us feeling busy, yet at the end of the day we wonder why we have accomplished so little and close to nothing.

Why do we miss deadlines, put off doing things we dislike, and accept stress and procrastination as a necessary part of life? What experiences have shaped the way you think about time? Do you need to rethink your views? If you were asked to speak to a group of students about the best way to use time, what would you say to them?

Please recognize that procrastination is keeping you from achieving all that you can in life.

Set deadlines for yourself, even when you don’t have to. You will never get it perfect enough, there will never be the perfect time, just do it and get it done to the best of your ability. You must learn when to say enough. Make the best decision and make a move. The important thing is to act. We live in an increasingly complex world; our information-gathering techniques can’t keep up with all the changing circumstances that affect our lives.

Force yourself to act.

Always ask yourself if a task needs to be done at all. Don’t get caught in the long drawn out to do list and nothing ever matters or means anything towards you getting your project done.  Ask yourself: What do all my tasks prove? Focus on getting things done, rather than on filling your day with more activities than you can possibly get around to. If you want to overcome procrastination, stop gathering information and get started on your project.
