5 tips to Be on FIRE and In Demand

Whatever you do in business and in your day to day life, do your best.  Keep in mind that competition is only proof that there is someone, somewhere who is capable of doing what you do.  Here is the beauty of competition, you can BE on FIRE and stand out from the rest and make your competition irrelevant.  You have indispensable and irreplaceable qualities.

Yes, you!

The are over 3 bakeries down the block from me, but there is one reason why I keep going back to the old rinky dink one.  They always give free samples of the days specials (cakes, cookies, etc) when you order a baked delight.  Just that simple added value keeps her customers loyal and coming back for more…she also remembers my name.

Here is 5 tips to keep yourself on FIRE and In Demand:

  1. Be your best when others are looking and even when they are not looking. Be your best whether it is one client or 10 clients, one member or 100 members.  Keep up the momentum and give your best.
  2. Focus on one thing at a time. Never ever multitask to the point you become ineffective and confused.
  3. Take a rest and recharge your mental batteries.  This will help to keep your productivity and performance levels high.
  4. Learn to say no.  Don’t worry about losing the sale or missing the opportunity especially when it involves you compromising your fees, rates or schedule.  Each time you say no you will feel more confident in your decision and the ability to achieve those things that are a priority for you.
  5. Always add value, to your services, products, conversations, presentations.  Be known for the one who brings value and substance to the table.

March Manifesto: The Power of Belief is in the Placebo

This month’s Manifesto is to help the overwhelmed and support the unfocused.

Have you heard of the placebo effect?

Well it’s when one group of people receive a dose or doses of the drug being tested and the other group receives the placebo, the non drug. Both groups are given the medicine believing that the medicine will cure them. Studies show 70 percent of patients in most cases healed themselves of the illness just through the power of belief. Isn’t this interesting. Let me ask you:

What do you believe about yourself, your goals and your vision?
If I told you right now that by taking the Activate pill it will cure your procrastination and stagnation, only if you took a dose a day, would you believe me?

If so get a glass of water and get ready for your first dose.

This is what March Manifesto is all about. Helping you to get rid of your procrastination or stagnation by forcing you to take inspired action every day. Many people I consult and coach do a lot of “doing”, and some do a lot of “do-nothing”. The question I ask them is what should you be focusing on this month? Who do you need to meet with this week? Who do you need to follow up with tomorrow? Who in your social media circle should you be talking to and connecting with? Who?

I spend two days a week connecting with high end individuals. This week I plan on meeting with a Congressmen and a TV Producer. I look to connect with individuals who I can support to do more of what I love. We have to be conscious with our March Manifesto and how we are leveraging our time, our space and our network.

Here are some tips I posted on Facebook and to my Activate 24/7 members to make this week more effective:
• Make 1 challenging phone call every day this week
• Speak or volunteer for an influential group or organization
• Have lunch with someone of influence and power
• Make 1 contact about article writing or a media interview to boost your credibility
• Follow up with 3 potential referral partners that WILL hire you
• Post up a new testimonial this week to leverage “word of mouth” marketing

Let’s get results and make this week phenomenal. If you want to take the pill daily then become an Activator today. If you are not ready just yet, then check back here on Wednesday for the next Manifesto announcement.

“We all have areas of our life where we just need a little nudge in the right direction to get unstuck. Million dollar ideas: Toys for rent? Introducing TOYGAROO

Just when you thought you heard it all, there is an online toy rental store that allows you to become a member, rent toys and then if your child really likes the toys you can buy them for a discount.

This can save you money and time.   I know I have spent lots of money on toys only to find out that my children have more fun with the box the toy came in than the actual toy.

At first I was questioning how kids would react to the fact that their toys were rented but when you think about it, they play with the toys for a limited time and then have the option to get new ones the next month or so.  This is pretty cool especially for the family who is on a limited budget.  No need to spend your savings on toys if you don’t want to.  There is a resource you can check out called Toygaroo and seen on Shark Tank, Nate Berkus and abc7.

This site gets a grade A for creativity, necessity and brand awareness.

Check it out and let me know what you think.

P.S. Your idea may be the next answer to someones prayers. You idea may be the next million dollar idea.  Go for it, think big.  Find a need and provide a solution based service.  Sounds easy, well it is.  Ideas make money when you move them.  Activate!

Women In Business Need To Get Naked

Women in business need to get naked.

Oh yeah! get naked but, please don’t take your clothes off.  When I say get naked I want you to start to advertise, advertise and advertise.  Stand behind your product, stand behind your service, stand behind your brand.  You have to find savvy ways to tell people what you do without shoving it down their throats. Get naked by showing the world what you do and what your working with.

In order for you to be the ONE, to be the TOP CHOICE, you have to be willing to get naked.  Take off what you have been wearing and start to put on the face of your business.  Show people what your hidden talents are.  Show people what you are working with.  Show people what you are passionate about.   My mother always told me if you got it flaunt it.  Take mommies advice and flaunt it.

In order to get noticed you have to show more, be fun and be consistent. Tell your people about your business in a different and exciting way.

Start to get naked by doing the following:

  1. Send out a tip of the week, or day and give it a catchy title. For example, if you are a baker, you may want to have a “Sweet Tooth tip of the week” or include your name in it for branding “Carlton’s Sweet Tip”.
  2. Stop covering up your brand, expose it by blogging. 70% of my revenue comes from clients who are avid readers of my blog.  Think about how you can incorporate your product or service into a blog post 2-3x a month. For example as a Relationship Coach you may want to do a 3 part series called “What’s Love Got To Do With It” part 1 and then offer an relationship laser session for $97.
  3. Get in front of a camera. Don’t be afraid to do a video every once in a blue.  This gives people the opportunity to feel like they know you better and this helps to build trust.

This is just some of the ways you can begin to get naked with your business.  It is all about exposing yourself and what you have to offer.

Do you find yourself stuck? Do you find yourself with a list of items that don’t get done, or maybe a feeling of overwhelm when you think of your to do list? Are you ready to balance maybe some of your life gradually while growing your business?

Get this Ebook and instant audio. It walks you thru the process, and makes it easy for you. Get your instant copy of F’ing Up: How to balance Family, Faith, Friends, Finances and Fitness

Work It, Whatever It Is!: The Voice of Elmo, Kevin Clash

‘Sesame Street’s’ Little Red Guy is a 6-Foot Tall Black Man named Kevin Clash has worked his mojo to become rich and famous.

In my upcoming book The Road to Redemption, I talk about the importance of using what you have, to get to where you want to get what you want.  This is a clear example of someone who had talent and used it as a child and had no idea that he would be the voice of one of America’s favorite TV show puppets.

This man took his talent and keep in mind this is something that he did as a child, something that he did for fun and he had the opportune time to get the exposure his talent needed.  Clash will soon be releasing a documentary,  Being Elmo, A Puppeteer’s Journey in which he shares his passion for puppetry, and his journey from being a shy Baltimore kid who was teased for making puppets out of slippers to becoming Muppet’s creator Jim Henson’s protege, to creating and giving voice to one of the world’s most beloved puppets. (RollingOut Magazine)

What is your hidden talents, that you use for fun, when no one is looking, when you where a child, maybe in your office…WHATEVER IT IS, WORK IT.

Start to get creative by letting others know that you have a talent, a skill and expose yourself.  Someone is always watching, listening and tuning in.  You never know when your time will come to be used for your greater good and the greater good of others.

Elmo brought such a happiness in many homes, he brought joy to the child who is sick or terminally ill, the voice of Elmo was soothing to the ears of a crying baby, and many times calmed down a temper tantrum.  Elmo was a solution to a problem; he was a character that had a loving voice, energy, passion and drive.  There was a life behind the red costume.

Add some life to your talent or skill.  Let’s see you come to life this month.

It’s Provocative!

What’s Provocative?

According to the Merriam-Webster’s dictionary.  Provocative adj. adj \pr?-?vä-k?-tiv\ : serving or tending to provoke, excite, or stimulate.

What do you have to offer that provokes change?

What do you do that excites yourself and others?

How do you stimulate your mind and the mindsets of others to act and think differently?

Are you Provocative?

The new question is, “Is it provocative? If it’s not provocative then what is it about? Why should I buy? Why should I attend?, Why should I invest?, Why should I call you? Why should I speak up? Why? Why? Why?

The opposite of provocative is repressive.  Repressive means that there is some sort of bondage, restraining and inhibiting of your mental freedom.

Have you ever thought about how the people you come in contact with feel when they speak to you, visit your blog or website, read your messages, consult with you, etc.  Let’s look at some power players:

Iyanla Vanzant – provocative or repressive? Provocative.  She stimulates those she comes in contact with; she excites women and men to stand up for themselves.

Donald Trump- provocative or repressive? Hmmm this is a good one.  I would say Repressive. He is all about himself, yes he build some provocative properties, but in my opinion he surrounds himself with provocative individuals especially women. Ahem, excuse me for that low blow.

The Kardashians- provocative or repressive? Hmmm this is a tough one.  If we go according to Kim alone we could say image provocative for men maybe, for women, not quite excited about her.  Not quite clear about her positive message to the world.  The other two…hmmm, I will let you decide. My vote would be repressive.

Floyd Mayweather– provocative or repressive? easy one…Provocative. He challenges those around him, he constantly challenges himself.  He stimulates those on the outside of the ring to come with your best shot or don’t come at all.  That is provocative.

Okay I know you can think of a few others, but here is just some off the top of my head…here is the trick question.

Lucinda Cross– provocative or repressive?

What about you are you provocative or repressive? Do you stimulate those you come in contact with or do you hold back so therefore those around you are holding back? What about your business message, your mission, your 10sec pitch, your brand, your website, your title, your book, your products.

Let’s get it right this time around.  Next time you have an intelligent conversation, make a business or life decision, buy that next power suit or dress (I’m not talking about that black dress on sale that shows everything but the veins in your body) make sure it’s provocative. If not, just keep your ears open and your mouth shut until you start exciting yourself enough to excite and uplift, empower, and inspire others.

Keep your eyes open for a 24 hour special called “It’s Provocative”.  This is an opportunity for only 10 activators to speak with me personally, pick my brain and nail down a strategy for the next level in creating a provocative lifestyle.

Why you? 10 Reasons Why They Should Work With You

Why should anyone buy your product or retain your services? What do you have to offer that makes it worth anyone’s time and/or money?

This is an uncomfortable question, but it is the secret sauce to build your business.  You must have the UNIQUE Point of Differentiation and a USP, Unique Selling Proposition.

We are all gifted with creative self expression; we all have something of value to offer.  Here is the kicker, many of us have no clue how we stand out in the marketplace.  We are not able to tell someone 10 reasons why they should buy our product, retain our service or invest their time and money in us.

Oprah Winfrey, Donald Trump, Martha Stewart, Iyanla Vanzant, Tony Robbins, Lisa Nichols, Gary Vaynerchuk, Chris Brogan, Ali Brown all have used creative self expression and their authentic voice to create rock star brands. They created extraordinary business models from ordinary ideas and dreams.  They demonstrated the big “WHY”.  Why you should consult with them, invest in them, showcase them and highlight them.  Why them? Because these creative visionaries moved by force, determination, passion and consistency.  They turned the ordinary business deal into an extraordinary opportunity.

If you’re going to create an extraordinary brand, you’ll need to keep showing up and showing out. You must be willing, able and ready to do something and say something interesting, relevant and transforming. You need to have a big enough WHY? Why you? Why here? Why now? Why should I choose you?

How can you create a micro product that clearly defines what you do and WHY it is important to the reader or listener?  Record using, or to add video and screen shots for illustration and demonstration purposes. Think about the following:

What are 10 problems you solve for people?

What are 10 problems that your market has?

What are 10 biggest challenges they encounter on a day to day basis?

Remember: If you are your authentic self and operate at your highest and best, you have no competition.

Counterfeiting the Counterfeit: More Authenticity, Less Scarcity

According to the Wikipedia, a counterfeit is an imitation, usually one that is made with the intent of fraudulently passing it off as genuine…..

Countless opportunities are missed by entrepreneurs thinking they need to be MORE like their competitor, or MORE like someone else to succeed. I ask you to release those thoughts right now.  You are already MORE than enough in your own creative self expression.

We have enough counterfeits, who are counterfeiting the counterfeit.

Your authenticity is precious, priceless and timeless.  You will reach a higher altitude in life by knowing that there is MORE than enough for everyone to be an individual.  Everyone can get a slice of the American pie, if that’s what you desire.

There are plenty of business opportunities for everyone. The Department of Treasury is printing MORE money right now, the wind is still blowing MORE air, the sun is still generating MORE energy, the rain is still watering the harvest so MORE crops can grow. You are still meeting MORE people every day, generating MORE opportunities, and your blood is producing MORE blood cells every day.

The rain is not trying to be the wind, the cat is not trying to be a dog, and a chair is still a chair, even if no one is sitting there. But, a chair is not a house….(I could not resist that line from Luther Vandross song, A House Is Not A Home)

Remember the world works in constant motion. How do you receive and perceive yourself? Are you caught up in someone else’s motion? If things are not working out the way you hoped, you may have to check out who you are showing up as, and how much of YOUR true authenticity is in the mix.  Don’t confuse your vision by trying to live someone else’s.  You may not be moving with the rest of the world. Why? Because you may be trying to be, do and have something that is not in alignment with YOUR authentic flow. Get back on track.

Learn from others, but add MORE of you in the mix.

Sidebar: I like real macaroni and cheese made with real cheese, not processed imitation cheese.  I need the cheese that is made from whole milk, from a real cow.

Brand Leverage: Double the Flavor, Double the Funds

Marketing your business is a must. In my observation the mistake most business owners make is marketing division, versus marketing leverage.

There are so many opportunities for you to get your products or services in the front of your target market. Most business owners over look the opportunities of expanding their reach and their brand awareness by thinking of “I” instead of “we”. You can collaborate and partner up with just about any business online and off.  It all depends on what they are offering, and if there is room to add value to what is not being provided.

Many people look at the competition and see what they are not doing right, when they should be looking at what the competition is doing right and then figuring out ways to create a cross- marketing campaign or joint venture.

For example a coach:

If you are a coach, couldn’t you find a virtual assistant who’d like to offer specific services to your clients in addition to your coaching packages that will help them with implementation?  This can add that extra value that most coaching packages do not include.  Here is your point of differentiation and you are now being marketed without any extra effort or time.

Another example is the graphic designer:

If you are a graphic designer, couldn’t you find a blog/website designer who’d appreciate your service for their clients as they focus on installation and customization of the clients’ website?  This can support your client in getting their logos, banners and custom images created all in one stop shopping.

I want you to think about your product or service offerings and begin to make a list of potential partnerships you can create.  Work smarter by working together.

If you need assistance adding value to your product or service contact us so we can support you in creating a “value added” plan. Use our online scheduler or email my assistant at
