Coaching is unlocking a person’s potential to maximize their own performance. It is helping them to learn rather than teaching them.

– John Whitmore

When it comes to getting the support you need this year, consider partnering up with a business coach.  When it comes to finding the right fit for you and your business needs, consider what ESPN had to say about some of the top coaches they picked and the characteristics and legacies that these coaches have built.  As you read the list, figure out whether you need a coach that is in your face and pushes you to the limit, a coach that outlines strategies and processes, a coach that supports you in certain aspects and levels of your life. You may need a  personal trainer, relationship coach, marketing coach, spiritual coach, life coach, etc…  The big question is: What level of guidance and support do you need right now?

ESPN CAN HELP YOU FIND A COACH

1. John Wooden-“A coach is someone who can give correction without causing resentment.”

He not only got his teams to win, he kept them from being complacent. He taught them how to be good people and good sports and still be competitive. He got stars to play unselfishly together.

2. Vince Lombardi – “Coaches who can outline plays on a black board are a dime a dozen. The ones who win get inside their player and motivate.”

Known as the greatest coach of all-time, not only for his accomplishments on the field, but for impact outside the lines.

3. Red Auerbach- “Natural abilities are like natural plants; they need pruning by study.”

He consistently pushed his players on the pro level. Red built the NBA, creating a mystique that has yet to be rivaled in sports.

4. Paul Brown – “The key to winning is poise under stress.”

“Every single thing he did was geared to maximize a team’s performance in terms of winning. So many things we do today, Paul Brown did first. He was way ahead of the competition. What he did was very, very much the blueprint of the way the game is played today…”

5. Bear Bryant- “I’ll put you through hell, but at the end of it all we’ll be champions.”

He won without superstars who most teams seem to require today. He won with athletes who were motivated by him to simply go out and do their best, both in football and life. He always gave them the credit for winning the games and he took the credit for losing them.

6. Lucinda Cross– “If your goal is attainable it’s not big enough. Let’s think Big and play Big”

(shameless plug) Known as the biz mommy coach and Marketing architect. She has impacted her team players to create systems and a process that allows them to play BIG and quickly build and leverage credibility and profitability.
