Beware of Chronic Freebie Seekers

The business building process has many levels, and many people come to me for coaching for visibility and marketing strategies that open doors but they complain about the fear of charging what they are worth.

I believe that Fame and Fortune are twin sisters. Don’t run for the spotlight to be seen, but you fear charging because you believe that charging will keep you from getting your foot in the door. In my experience and observation- professionals get paid, amateurs get swayed.

Choose which one you want for your brand and business and let’s get this money.

It’s normal to feel empathy or sympathy for those who are struggling financially. Luckily, with the career you’ve chosen of providing useful information, you can help those people succeed.

You’ll feel good about yourself and the ones you help will be lifelong customers. You’ll both benefit from the help you give. As an entrepreneur who is in the business of helping others achieve success in whatever niche you’re leading, you should go above and beyond.

That doesn’t mean giving away all of your knowledge and secrets for free, but the products you do offer should have meat in the content and go beyond a simple freebie that you secured from the Internet.

GOALS: My Mentor Made Me Do This Sh*t

Daily Routines of Successful People

If you want to become more successful, daily routines can help. Just look at some of the most successful people in the world and you’ll see the one thing they have in common is they follow a strict routine. I remember sitting day after day watching my mentor move strategically day after day and I have to be honest, I used to think he was OCD or a structure lunatic. As a person who winged it most of my life and operated under pressure, I did not understand the importance of operating in decency and order in my personal or professional life.

The question is, what does a daily routine of a successful person look like? To give you inspiration, below you’ll discover some great examples of what I studied and observed of what successful people include in their routines.

Start With a Morning Routine

One of the main things that successful people have in common, is that they all have a morning routine, as well as afternoon routines, and evening routines. It might not be the exact same routine, but they do have one that they follow religiously.

Do You Like The Things That Life Is Showing You?

What is your Big ASK? Do You Know?

One of my favorite songs as a child was sung by Diana Ross “Do you know where you’re going to?”

Do you know where you’re going to?
Do you like the things that life is showing you?
Where are you going to? do you know?
Do you get what you’re hoping for?
When you look behind you there’s no open door
What are you hoping for?
Do you know?

Many of you have already invested in getting a copy of The Big ASK so some of this content is going to piggyback many of the principles in the book. (Sidebar: Please take the time to write me a review on Amazon. Reviews on Amazon are like gold nuggets.)

The one question I get all the time about productivity and The Big ASK is: How do I get clear on my wants, needs, and desires? Having a Big ASK is getting so much emphasis nowadays for two reasons.

My ESSENCE Fest Experience

There is too much to share to type in one post so please be on the lookout for a Follow-Up video.

Let me just share that the ESSENCE Fest experience is all about the side events. Just when you think you are having a blast at the Convention Center and the concerts at The Superdome before you get there you have to decide between a dozen or so dope events that you must narrow down to two or three that you can attend per day.

I was a featured author with a book signing and I sold out.

Side events include celebrity brunches and lunches, meet-ups with decision makers and corporate big wigs, your favorite product Pop up shops and then there’s the all-white parties, all black parties, movie premiers, listening parties, and album releases.

I was able to get in on:

AT&T Brunch with Isaiah Thomas– it was polished. Everyone was dressed to the T. Me and hubby literally just got off the plane and headed over to the brunch not realizing it was fancy schmancy. As we were going back and forth whether we should stay or leave because we were underdressed, cute still but a bit underdressed, here comes a big wig, greeting us, loving on us and welcoming us to an elite table in our un-elite attire. LOL
Here is where Isaiah Thomas was showcasing his new champagne which was really delicious and I had a chance to meet some top executives and media outlets. One connection I made, in particular, had me ready to do a Glory run around the room. (more to come about that)

Strength of A Woman Brunch hosted by Mary J Blige- yoooooooooooo, this event is my personal highlight ever year, thanks to one of my sister friends. Here you are in a room full of A-listers but everyone is super cool and relaxed. The energy in the room is light and the ambiance is flawless. Plus I get a chance to see Mary J Blige up close and personal. Yes, I had to hold back a few yells and OMGs when I saw her but her smile and even acknowledging my Yellow dress was everything.

My California Experience

10665759_935121063178607_9121418030227173584_n“Small opportunities are often the beginning of great enterprises.”

I believe when you travel to new places, it is a great opportunity to learn new things. I recently visited California this past weekend to speak as a keynote for The Bounce Back To Your Brilliance Live Conference in LA, an awesome event presented by Angel Tyree. I want to share with you my take away from my Hollywood experience.

You ready for it….there is a big difference between being  Seen OnFeatured InMentioned and Quoted, when it pertains to media. How does this pertain to you? People often misuse media terminology in order to appear more credible or leverage their platform. However, this can be harmful  for their career. Terminology and the correct use of verbiage is so important.

Here are the differences…

If someone is Seen On, you can simply Google their name and BOOM the show they mentioned being a part of will appear. Seen On should reference television, web series or any visual media.

Featured In, you also can do a Google search and there should be a page with name, picture or an interview that features the individual. This may be in the form of online or in print. This does not include quotes and one liners, this is a full feature about a person and their story. Majority of the time you will see an image accompanying the write up.

Quoted is just that, a person being quoted for their expertise or knowledge with their name attached and should not be mixed up with the above stated.

Mentioned is when a writer or editor mentions or references a person in their content.

It was bought to my attention by several agents and media moguls that they were excited to read about my integrity in the use of my media mentions and how it makes a difference in decisions. Major networks cringe when a person uses their logos and brands unethically and to someones advantage. In order to receive more awareness make sure you reference your media mentions in the way you were featured, mention, quoted or seen. Trust me it makes a difference to the media sharks seeking talent. You can bamboozle the people but the industry will know the truth. Make sure you don’t misuse terminology for short term success. We don’t want to jeopardize ourselves for greater opportunities.
