Keynote topic: Never Stop, Never Giving Up
How often are we caught up in the rush of doing life, that we never enjoy living the life. I am talking about stopping to smell the sweet aroma of success on your journey.
Success is a journey full of inspiration and reflection. It’s a journey that should not be rushed through.
When you pace yourself you actually speed up your process. You’ll begin to see all those little things about yourself and others that you missed before. Pacing yourself allows you to savor every moment. It allows you to experience the nine months of growth and development during pregnancy that most women want to rush through.
As I prepare mentally, emotionally and spiritually for my very first Activate Conference, I realize that it is very important for me to unpack and unload in order to deliver my best.
Today I will attempt to unpack three cases of pain. For months I walked past these suitcases for they are a constant reminder that my Mother has made her transition. The pain simply overwhelmed me. Truth be told, I’ve sat up many nights staring at them trying to find the inner strength to unpack them however grief and pain consumed me and I left it for another day.
My Mother’s transition gifted me with tons of love, loads of memories and three cases of pain. Unpacking these suitcases will be one of the hardest things I have ever done but necessary for my growth.
How many times do we avoid the process because of the pain that may surface or re-surface? As I take the uncomfortable action steps to unpack these suitcases of pain today, my wish is that you do the same. Take the pain that you have locked in the corner for months or even years, and address it. Your pain may be the death of a relationship, job, or thoughts that no longer serve your highest interest.
We need you to show up at the Activate Conference without painful baggage and hidden agendas.
Give yourself permission to heal. I have 3 cases of pain and it may take me all day, it may take me another week, but I am determined to unpack and release this part of my process before I greet you on September 20th at the Activate Conference. Let the healing begin one case at a time.
Let the healing begin one case at a time. Today I want you to unpack…
Unpack the suitcase of love and encourage others to do the same
Unpack your strength so that you can knock down walls that keep you from being the person God has called you to be.
Unpack your vision so you can see yourself and the world through God’s eyes
Unpack the process in every situation and be grateful for the lessons behind each one.
Unpack your joy from head to toe, inside and out
Unpack your pride and be willing to ask for help
Unpack healing to help your body and mind be stronger and clear each day
Unpack your song and dance to the beat of the drums and not the drama
Unpack your truth so that faith can take you to amazing places
If this has inspired you to unpack, share this post with your circle of sisters! Hope to see you in September at the Activate Conference http://www.activateconference.com .
Miss you mommy…
The value of today. I never really understood the value of each day until my mom passed away…I never really understood the value of today until my freedom was snatched away. Today is a defining moment. I live for today. I grind for today. I love for today.~ Lucinda Cross~
What is stopping you from doing and being all that you can be?
What is stopping you from going where you want to go?
What is stopping you from saying what you want to say?
The more you look deep within and realize that there is bliss just waiting to be exposed. No on can stop you but you. To change at a deep level, you have to go within and find those old beliefs, confront them, and trash them.
This is what Steven Pressfield had to say about this: “RESISTANCE will tell you anything to keep you from doing your work. It will reason with you like a lawyer, or jam a nine millimeter pistol in your face like a stick-up man.”
I watched this cool movie over the weekend called “In Time.”
The movie starred Justin Timberlake and the beautiful Sylvia Weis. I am not a movie critic, but I learned some great lessons watching this movie.
The movie is based on Time. In the movie, Time is money, and Time is your life. You have to work for more Time. You eat using Time. Everything revolves around Time.
This movie had a profound influence on my way of looking at this incredibly important asset. After watching this movie, the way I use my time will be handled more responsibly and carefully. I don’t have time to waste. I don’t know how much time I have left. I will continue to make the most of my time. I will use my time enjoying life, changing lives and helping others make the most of their own time.
Time keeps going, and unlike in the movie, there is no way for me to gain time. I cannot go to a “Time Bank” and buy more … I just have to make the most of each day’s allotment.
Don’t put off for tomorrow what you can do today.
Don’t waste time on people, places and things that don’t matter.
Use your time wisely.
Use today responsibly.
Make the most of your minutes.
Saturate every moment with love.
Cherish every day.
When it comes to showing up in the world there is a movement called “Authenticity” that is forcing itself upon almost every woman seeking change. Part of the movement involves us as women to embrace change and be transparent with ourselves in order to show up in an impactful and meaningful manner.
The role that most women are being called to is a new form of leadership that I call Lead-her-ship. This forces each and every woman to remove their limiting beliefs and embrace their greatness, all while leading the next woman to the water. This forces each woman to be the change. This forces each and every woman to unplug from any dogmas, associations and lackluster activities and motives.
That is the disciplined Lead-her…
She knows when to show up and how
She shares her wisdom
She is free
She takes responsibility
She steps up to the plate
She demands respect and gives it
She watches her language and guards her conversation
She believes in investing in herself
She has faith and a vision
She is focused and determined
She is willing to say NO and she is willing to share
Are you a disciplined Lead-her?
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” Mark Twain (1835-1910)
In business and in life it is imperative for us to look at our position that we hold in the hearts and minds of the people we come in contact with and determine, whether we are showing needy tendencies or leadership qualities. If you want more out of life, love, family, friends, health and even in your faith you must position yourself in a way that fosters positive changes.
Lead-hers are those who are going to make things happen and push against the grain. They also raise up other lead-hers on the way. They have high determination and low levels of procrastination.
Need-hers are those who are waiting for things to change, shift and happen. They sit around waiting for someone or something to save them. They have high expectations and low activation.
Someone is waiting for you to be a Lead-her. You never know you just might save someone’s life.
Tell me your thoughts on this topic. I am interested to reading your thoughts and comments. Here is an Activate post I shared on my Facebook wall today. http://facebook.com/authorlucindacross
Activate: What is the Road to Redemption about? It’s about teacher the reader how to be a lead-her versus a need-her. I will explain this later, but I want you to sit on this and think about the position you hold right now in the lives of those you come in contact with. Every day a leader is born. As a leader who coaches and mentors leaders I find it equally important to study those who have left clues for leadership success. We as women must stand for something and speak up for something. We as women must unite and collaborate. We as leaders must be willing to follow and learn how to speak our truth and stand in our power. Women such as Shirley Chisholm made a bold claim in the 70’s that she was going to run for president. She was bold, she was determined and she activated her thoughts into actions. Let’s not back down from doing something historical this year. All it takes is a “Yes, Count me in” to get the impossible done.
Shirley Chisholm was the first black congresswoman, and the first African-American woman to make a bid for the U.S. Presidency.
What do you stand for today?
Are you ahead of the flock?
What truth do you stand on?
What bold calim are you making to the world?
Watch this 2min video of the late and great Shirley Chisholm as she talks about The Definition of Leadership.
